Goodbye Corporate World - Week 2 What will I do?
Goodbye Corporate World - Week 2
What Will I do ?
Well Sami was as good as her word and phoned me on Monday,
only problem was I was the passenger in the car with my stepdaughter who is a
learner driver. Anyone that’s been on
white knuckle rides with learners, knows you need your wits about you despite desperately
wanting to answer Sami’s call, I just couldn’t risk life and limb.
Its ok all was not lost Sami sent me a message and call set
up for tomorrow. I’m normally the one
making these types of calls to chat to prospective employees and now yes, I’m nervous,
how on earth do you make the right first impression over the phone? The call
went well, a Zoom call was arranged to speak to the other MD Stuart Powell on
Thursday.
Quick update on the running…. I actually quite like it, my
knees don’t, however I’m not giving up.
I enjoy the energy it has given me, I can do some of my best thinking
whilst trying to shift lockdown pounds, well stones!
So on to the studying, how’s that been going? I’m on the second read through of the study
text now. I’m learning lots and have found it really reassuring that before
rushing in to advising a client to take Equity Release, that all alternatives
should be discussed with and discounted by the client. I am scared by the
thought that the government has estimated approximately 2 million people
currently have interest only mortgages and have no way to repay the capital
due.
Back to Thursdays Zoom call.
Is it a chat is? Is it an interview? What do I need to prepare? Anyone that knows me I must be prepared in
order to be comfortable walking into any type of meeting. So, I turned in to Miss Marple and started my
research into the parent company Ocean Mortgages and wrote a list of questions. Great they have a dog on their website, well that’s
a massive plus point in my book. They
have an impeccable reputation and customer is key, two more points to
them. Thank goodness I’m so used to Zoom
calls, it was a really interesting call which started with me showing them my
garden! I was impressed by the openness and
honesty of both Sami and Stuart. They
answered all my questions and I know that I can learn so much from them. Stuart even said that if I didn’t go with
them that I should go with another large corporate firm that he had connections
with and who I also had discussions with.
That meant so much to me, that he was so open and transparent by endorsing
another company other than his own. At one point during the call we were discussing
the sales funnel and OMG did I really say “I call it my Womb”? I wished the ground would swallow me up, I was
so embarrassed. They took it in their stride
and even laughed and said it was a female led company helping ladies.
After the call they sent me an informative pack which was
very professional and had everything that I would have expected from a large
corporate company. They also said that
they would give me time to make my decision!
What does that mean, they want me? Once I got over the shock that I am
actually wanted, I have to think, do I go with a small well established family firm,
or do I stick with what I know and go with a large corporate? Big decisions for
the weekend! ….and a large prosecco.
