Goodbye Corporate World - Week 1 What have I done?
Week 1
Yesterday I said goodbye to my corporate world of 32 years
and today start my new venture into the world of Later Life Lending. I start my day with mixed emotions “What have
I done and who will employ me now? To when shall I take the dog out and what
shall I have for breakfast?”
So, I jump in with both feet and attempt to run (anyone that
knows me normally the only place I run to is the bar). Spurred on by my inner monologue I actually
ran 5k for the first time ever in my 49 years on the planet! I was so surprised
that I’ve achieved something I never thought I was capable of, I then decided
that I was absolutely right and had made the right decision and it was time to
pick up my Equity Release study manual.
My initial thoughts were this is common sense, I really
liked that clients were truly put at the heart of everything. Some clients are vulnerable and do need
advice and support.
On my second day, I could hardly move because of yesterday’s
marathon, but I was still euphoric after feeling like Usain Bolt. So, this was
perfect to make me sit and study as I couldn’t move. On one of my breaks, I checked my emails (old
habits die hard). I had subscribed to Mortgage Solutions and there was an
article which was a light bulb moment, a true revelation. The launch of The
Equity Release Lady an exciting new firm that is recruiting women to set up
their own later life advice firms. This
will give women the opportunity to deal with a female adviser if it makes them
more comfortable. I was so excited, I did something I’d never done before, I
looked for the Managing Director Sami Bickford on LinkedIn and asked if she
would connect with me. (I actually felt like a stalker hunting her down).
To my amazement not only did Sami connect with me, but she
also sent me a lovely message saying how brave I was and how I would never look
back on my old corporate world. This
made me feel ten feet tall (not bad as I’m only 5ft 1in). Then I read further, she asked if I would be
interested in having a chat! Oh, wow happy Saturday, what an amazing end to my
first week of being unemployed.

Really great to read. Your Proactive attitude in your venture to see what happens is inspiring. I will be on a similar path at the end of the year , after 31 and a half years with RBS (natwest group) so would love to follow your blog. I wish you well. Looking forward to your next blog. Take care.
